Fabric Tapestry Rugs:
Books, Tools and Supplies
The following items are available in our catalog.

Crocheted and Fabric Tapestry Rugs
(Preview more color photos of the rugs featured in this book)
Finally, all in one book is the complete guide to making incredible crocheted and fabric tapestry rugs. This book includes all of the information in Mrs. Gray's five previous books on crocheted and fabric tapestry rugs. Start by learning how to select and prepare fabrics. Make a hotpad while learning to read the time-saving charted patterns. These patterns are the key to simplifying the more advanced fabric tapestry technique. You'll be able to crochet rugs in any shape: rounds, ovals, squares, rectangles, hearts, half-rounds, pentagons, L-shapes and even free form shapes with multiple centers. And for every shape you'll have reliable directions that let your rug lie flat every time!

Then take the next step with fabric tapestry! You'll learn how to make patterned rugs with diamonds, stars, geometric patterns, 'quilt' patterns and more. You'll even learn how to design your own fabric tapestry rugs so simply that you just won't believe it! As if that weren't enough, the book also includes some unique variations on crocheted rugs including the 'string' crochet which lets you make a fabric rug that really looks like it was woven on a loom. Or try 'one way crochet' or some antique stitches. Finally, for dessert, check out the Appendix. In it you'll find directions for baskets, placemats and totebags-- all real favorites for gifts and craft fairs. No matter what your skill level, you'll be making rugs and gifts that will last a lifetime and really will be of heirloom quality. (90 pages)

LACING NEEDLES
For all of the rugs made with folded cotton strips (crocheted, bohemian braids, chain braids, knitted, etc.) there will always be tag ends of fabric strip that have to be worked back into the rug at the finish. Lacing needles make the work easy. For cotton braided rugs, the needls can be used with fabric strip to join the braids for a super-strong construction. Lacing needles are also the primary tools needed to make Flat Wrap and Amish Knot rugs, and can be used as "toothbrush" tools for naalbinding and related rugs.

6" Steel lacing needle with curved, blunt tip
these needles  are just the best lacing needle we've found. The eye will take 1-1/2" cotton strip for lacing and the curved tip makes lacing cotton braided rugs much easier than using straight lacing needles.
6" Plastic lacing needle
We've carried these needles for years and though the needles are plastic, they do stand up to use for quite a long time. The eye is large enough for 1-1/2" fabric strip.

HANDY HOOK
This is a size N, plastic crochet hook, 6-1/2 inches long with a broad handle and curved shank. Also, we’re told the design is easier on the hands and wrists if you do a lot of crocheting, and it is also a good size for crocheted and fabric tapestry rugs.

Size Q Handy Hook
Same as above, except orange in color. Use with pre-folded wool strip or really heavy cotton strip.
