Rugmakers Bulletin #15:
PRIMITIVE RUG HOOKING, AN INTRODUCTION
Traditional rug hooking done with wider strips is known as 'primitive'
rug hooking. The method is ideal for a first time rug hooker, since
primitive
rugs are quicker to make than 'fine' hooking. The bulletin covers the
basics
of hooking technique on a burlap base and designing and finishing a
'primitive'
hooked rug.
TRADITIONAL RUG HOOKS
These are the
traditional
rug hooks with wooden handles. The shaft size (3.5mm) is suited to
relatively
primitive hooking with strips up to 1/4 inch. The tip is blunt enough
that
they can also be used for poked rugs.(3.5mm for primitive hooking
and
poked rugs)
