Patched Rugs & Sewn Shag Rag Rugs:
Books, Tools and Supplies
The following
items are available in our catalog
13-017 Introduction to Patched Rugs
................
out of print
Patched
rugs
are made by layering wool pieces onto a wool backing. The pieces are
sewn
in place (traditionally with linen). The most familiar types of these
rugs
are the Penny or Dollar Rugs with round patches sewn down with a
blanket
stitch. This book gives you lots of stitching and pattern alternatives.
The patterns in the book include the 'tongue' or 'shingle' rugs;
layered
blocks; woven strips; 'Penny' rugs and modern patterns (Rose of Sharon)
plus the raised 'Waterlilly' pattern, with cutting guides.
5-inch, blunt tipped, SHIRRING NEEDLE
For years I've looked for just this needle. It is ideal for center
and edge shirred rugs, standing wool rugs and even patched rugs.
BAROQUE COTTON,
For years, this is the cotton we've most recommended for shirred rugs,
string crochet, and patched rugs with cotton stitching. This
DMC
cotton thread is 100% cotton, tightly spun, super-mercerized to stand
up
to wear, and handles like a dream. Since we've heard that folks are
having
a hard time finding this, we're now going to carry it in the catalog.
It
is available in white or ecru.
