Inspite of a snow storm, we had a good turn out for the Christmas party. Got to the Picture link to see them.

A Cowboy Christmas,

Sunday December 21st 2008

Cocktails at 1800 with dinner at 1900. That's 6:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. for those of you who haven't served or could not.

Party at Jimmy C's formerly Rib Ranch in Athol at the intersection of HWY 95., same as last year. Choice of Prime Rib, Chicken or Prawns. Cost $14.99 per. Wear your finest cowboy stuff but loose the guns for this night of fun. Door prizes straight from the Convention in L.V. Bring your spouse or whomever and let's have some Christmas fun.
Tom ( Malachi Fallon) needs a head count by Dec.12. Best to call him at 263-2324 lest he call you and threaten you with coal only for Christmas.
P.S. Coal sucks as a black powder substitute.

May All of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

With the promise of a Thanksgiving dinner provided by Mud Marine, 34 brave cowboys came out to see who would bring the turkey home. Following a safety meeting (by Stretch), to remind everyone of the '170 degree' rule, the fun began.

Mud Marine delivered as promised, a very large Thanksgiving dinner along with the help of his faithful sidekick, Bill Me Later. In behalf of the club, I would like to give him a big 'THANK YOU' for all the hard work he does providing food though out the year.

On Stage 6 we had a Turkey Shoot with one of the pistols. The winner of the turkey was Elfego with 23 points out of a possible 25 points. Waddie Bill also had 23 points but since he had a slower time for the stage he came in 2nd place, which was still good for a pie. Burkhart came in 3rd with 22 points and also took home a pie.

Don't for get to bring a couple of pieces of firewood with you when you come to these winter matches. It sure is nice to have a warm stove when the weather gets cold.

Not even the possibility of rain could get 12 hardy cowboys away. All those that missed lost out on a great day of shooting. Mud Marine was not there, but promises to be at the next shoot with a Thanksgiving dinner. You don't want to miss that!!!

Oddman has been working on getting some badges made with the club name and your alias on them. He sent out the following E-mail. Please contact him if you have further questions at 208-437-0496 or snj5_t6@verizon.net

"I have just received information on the Club Badges.  A sample Badge style is attached, ours will have " El Buscaderos across the top,  two cross pistols in the middle and you SASS alias or SASS number along the bottom. If you guys want something different we can discuss it at the next shoot.

There is a one time set up fee of $ 150.00 ( the club can pay this)  or we can discuss it..  You can have the Badge made in Brass for $ 40.00 or Solid Sterling Silver for $ 55.00 .  In addition there is a $ 2.00 fee for each letter or digit.

Any comments, please let me know

Oddman"

And lastly, you will note the rather interesting pictures for this week. This is why "REAL" cowboys use black powder.

A message from the president:

Pards. Our next schedules shoot is Sunday 11-9-08 sign up at 0930 hrs. If you all can bring a couple pieces of split firewood it would be greatly appreciated. We will have a sign up sheet for those who want an “ El Buscaderos Club Badge” available.

A few pards have displayed an interest in the “ High Plains Drifter” category, so at the next shoot all those shooters who would like to shoot this category bring along the proper guns and lets see if we can get an entire posse together. If you are new and would like to shoot this category, you will need the following equipment. One pistol, cap and ball .40 cal. or larger. For this club shoot you can sub. a cartridge pistol. Pistols will be shot duelist style only. (Black Powder or Sub. Only) One single shot rifle black powder or sub. only (5 rounds per stage) Please reduce to light loads, to do the job but not kill our targets. An example would be 30-35 grains of powder and a 300-400 grain lead bullet for the 45-70 caliber rifle. The shotgun will be side by side or lever action black powder only. I know there will be questions so please contact me or other pards. who shoot this category. Let’s have fun and remember to play safe.

If this category “High Plains Drifter” works OK at the shoot and there is an interest we could shoot the “Joesy Wales” category next. This is another black powder only category shot with 4 pistols and 1 shotgun no rifle or 5 pistols only no rifle/shotgun. Let see how it goes.

After a long and hard campaign, we elected new officers for the coming year. Starting July 1, "Oddman" will be president, "Kaniksu Kid" won vise president with "Elfego" continuing as Secretary/Treasure and "Stretch" continuing as Safety/Ranger Officer.

Even though there was still lots of snow on the ground, spring appears to be here. With it came the hibernating cowboys with 23 cowboys showing up to shoot and have fun. Several cowboys from Montana made the trek and showed us how it really done. Mud Marine provided another excellent lunch.

Looks like we will have the shoot on Sunday, February 24. I received the following email from Cap'n Crump.

Friday update - Oddman has arranged for a guy with a skidder & plow to clear the range today - we will need shooters to bring snow shovels (arrive a little earlier) to clean up around the stages and clear paths to the target stands.
And don't forget to bring a little fire wood - we are running very short.

Looks like the match is CANCELED for February 10, 2008. I received the following email from Oddman:

Current info. on our shooting range:

Capt. Crump called me this morning and said he was not able to get his pick up truck running. (mechanical problems) We were scheduled to go and plow, and snow blow the range today. He further stated he attempted to contact Tom Griffin (property owner) three times over the last 5 days in an effort to get range plowed with a skidder. Mr. Griffin never returned his calls. (may be he went South for the Winter ?)
Due to the range condition we are going to cancel the Shoot tomorrow, with any luck and help we will have it up and operational in two weeks.  Sorry Guys

I recieved an update concerning Bill Me Later.

"He is still in Bonner General Rm 220, 263-1441. He needs to have a skin graft and will be there at least through Tuesday. Yes he can take calls but he sometimes sounds loaded which I assume is the morphine.
Tom"

February 1, 2008

I recieved a e-mail from Tom Suttmeier about Bill Lewis aka; Bill Me Later

"Perhaps a note on the site offering some support for Bill Lewis. On Thursday he got his right hand caught in the auger of a tractor mounted snow-blower. It broke his fingers ( including trigger finger and tore off his skin on the hand and arm. He has undergone surgery and now awaits skin transplant.

January 27, 2008

No match was shot due to heavy snow and the inability of getting to the range. However, Mud Marine did show up. Looks like he won the match again. Received the following e-mail and pictures.

"I received a call about 1145 hrs. last Sunday.  Mud Marine wanted to know if I was coming down to the Range and have lunch, he had plenty of food because no one else was there. And by the way he needed a little help getting out of the Range. About one and a half hours later he was on his way back home. I think his next car should be a Hummer.

Received the scores and this e-mail from Oddman"

Hi Doc.     Sorry, we missed you last Sunday. It was around 37 deg. no wind, snow or rain, and we had the range plowed so there was no problem with snow. Eleven shooters showed up and completed 6 stages (see attached scores) The Mud man and Son fixed something different.  Chile & Beans with corn bread.!!! We ran out of fire wood around mid day, if you could remind everyone to bring 3-4 pcs. of fire wood for each shoot, it would be greatly appreciated. See you at our next Shoot.
