Anders in 80's

Ander's 70's tracks had certainly been missing something.  In the first part of the 80's, things did not immediately change.

Anders wrote (with Ingela Forsman), produced and performed (with Karin) on Kall Som Is for the 1984 Eurovision trials in Sweden.  It failed to win in Sweden.  For a listing of those Swedish trial entrants, still available on CD, click here.

Both he and Karin became involved with B & B via Chess.  Anders sang in the concert version of "Chess," including on at least one concert recording.  Jan Bach writes that Anders is "one of the singers in the pop choir."   You can hear him singing backup to Murray Head on One Night in Bangkok.

But then, something serendipitous happened.

At the invitation of B & B, Anders and his sister Karin became Gemini.   Under the guidance of Bjorn and Benny, Gemini issued two albums, Gemini (1985) and Geminism (1987). Both albums were produced by B&B. On the second album, Geminism, Anders co-produced and co-wrote 3 of the tracks.

On the basis of the Gemini work alone, Anders occupies a respectable niche within Swedish pop.

A solo album, Här Går En Man, followed in October, 1988.  It was recorded and mixed at Polar Studios. Anders co-wrote all the tracks with J. Käck.  To this listener, Anders' mature recordings often display interesting (though not dominant) percussive effects; and in Här Går En Man one begins to hear these touches.

The lead track, Här är jag, presents a good example of the promise and the problem.  It is in part a chant, uses vocal sounds as percussion and other embellishment, and incorporates a verse which begins as a little doo-wop break and evolves into a street fight.  Portions are mindful of Frida's 1996 ögonen (Written and Produced by Anders).  Ballads are interspersed, with Vill du resa i vår så reser jag me dig and Om du vill being two pleasantly competent examples, the former being my favorite track on the album.  Most of the singing is in the mid and higher ranges of his voice.  The use of backing vocals is mostly unremarkable, although I like the effect when he uses brief doublings of his own voice.   This is a listenable, though not compelling, album.

Complete Track Listing:

1. Här är jag
2. Här går en man
3. Vill du resa i vår så reser jag me dig
4. Förälskad
5. Alltid du
6. Stolt land
7. Om du vill
8. Bröllopet
9. Man med mod
10.  Vi kan väl dansa en dans ändå
11. Novembernatt

The album is a palpable advance from the work of the 70's.  One conjectures that Anders gained much in the Gemini sessions.

In 1989, as part of the duo Eriksson-Glenmark, Anders again entered the Melodifestival with Upp över mina öron, which did not qualify.
