Anders in the 90's

Recorded Jag Finns Här För Dig at Polar.  The CD booklet says the album was recorded in 1989; Boxman's shows it released in January, 1990; Skivhugget reports a release date of September, 1992!  The January, 1990 date seems most likely.  It is on the Station label.  Karin* sings backing vocals, with Lisa Nilsson, Peter Hällstrom and Orup, on four cuts.  Karin has a couple of nice solo lines in Regn Och Romantik, the final cut.  Anders composed the music, and Leif Käck the lyrics on all songs.  This is a very good soft rock album, well worth the listening.  The melodies are not particularly memorable (nor hooky in the B & B way).  Because my taste favors the wall of sound, and power ballads, I find myself liking best:

A chanting chorus help fill up Kan Du Komma Till Venedig and Allt Som Hon Sa Var Sant, and a string section adds strength and texture to both Venedig and Regn.Emerging as my favorite on this album is Allt Som Hon Sa Var Sant, (click here for a mono sample zipped to approx. 450k) which opens with Karin and (high praise) is suggestive of a Gemini song. Gemini fans should definitely consider purchasing Jag Finns Här För Dig.

His next album, 99, was also recorded at Polar, and released in October of 1991 again on the Station label.  Anders wrote words and music for all but 3 of the tracks; on these three he wrote the music.  Karin sings a harmony duet with Anders on the choruses of För Vad Det Kan Va' Värt (as well as some other backing vocals on this cut).  As you might expect, this is one of my favorite cuts.  I also like the horn arrangement and semi-reggae beat on Mare Mare. My wife, a tough sell when it comes to pop, likes this album.  Tracklist:

In 1992, Anders recorded Boogie I Mitt Huvud, at Polar, which was released in 1993. This includes the unreleased Gemini song, Äntligen , which with Mio Min Mio are the only Gemini tracks available in Swedish.  Benny plays on two tracks: Äntligen and Högre Standard.   Karin sings backup on 6 of the 10 tracks. Besides the historical interest of the "leftover" Gemini track, this is to my ear simply a very good album. Båten, the lead cut, is fairly hypnotic, somewhat anticipating this capacity in Frida's Alska Mig Alltid, and I find I can play it over and over.

    Tracklist:

The trio Glenmark/Eriksson/Strömstedt recorded an album under that name in 1995.  It produced two singles, Man gråter aldrig på en lördag and Jagär en jävel på kärlek.  The first of these cuts is suggestive of ELO, and is quite nice.  This recording is still available.

Produced Frida's Djupa Andetag, 1996. Frida says (in a 1997 Swedish TV interview) it was a wonderful collaboration.  Anders holds the same opinion.

Anders remixed Alla Mina Basta Ar for one of the two CD-single releases, his featuring 4 versions. These remixes received mostly favorable reviews in ABBAmail.  Michael Hawes commented that Anders, as an original songwriter, did a "fine job writing and producing and it seems he's trying to keep the original song intact."

Anders also:

Produced multiple albums by Eva Dahlgren, including "En blekt blondins hjärta".

Produced Magnus Uggla single Kung För En Dag, 1997.

Wrote Ge Mig Lite Mer for the Kicki Moberg eponymous album.

In 1997, he produced and recorded "Glenmark" at Polar Studios, his most recent album.

Tracklist: Leva Länge and Himlen Kan Vänta are my favorites from this album, which samples several styles.  The mentioned cuts are reminiscent of songs like Båten or perhaps Varje Gäng Du Ber Mig.   They gain character from, and in fact seem to be built on, a hooky bass line, delivered on guitar on Leva Länge and on an electric piano in Himlen Kan Vänta.   Karin does not assist on this album.  The use of a Spanish opening flourish on Daisy is gracefully mindful of ABBA, but the song bridges into quite generic, though quite listenable.   Jag Sänder is reminiscent of later John Lennon.

Anders has not embraced the stylistic or vocal trends of the (American) pop music scene 90's.  This is just fine with me.

In September, 1998, Anders performed in the B & B tribute concerts in Göteborg, and again at the end of October (In Stockholm).
