Purpose
Who The Kaniksu Bioregional Council began with a membership of one and has grown, slightly, to include a few more clear-thinking and concerned citizens who appreciate the beauty and complexity of nature's web.
What We're a small group of citizens living mostly in rural areas dedicated to a clean, green bioregion. We involve ourselves in local environmental and political issues such as the Rock Creek Mine Project as well as state and national issues which may effect our local ecosystem.
Where The Council is concerned primarily with what we call the Kaniksu Bioregion located in the panhandle of north Idaho. We arbitrarily designate this bioregion as encompassing the valley and watershed bordered by the Selkirk Mountains to the west, the Cabinet Mountains to the east, Lake Pend Oreille and the small town of Sandpoint to the south, and Canada's Purcell Mountains to the north.
When The Council began a half dozen years ago and will continue for as long as the energy that created it remains to fuel it's further evolution.
Why The Council was created because the founder believed the voices in a group are louder than that of the individual and thus better able to attract the attention of corporate and elected officials to our concerns.
How The primary tool of the Council is the written word in the form of letters, faxes and e-mail directed to the appropriate corporations, government officials and agencies, and other public figures involved in any project impacting our bioregion.
